Help Sponsor Michigan Boys State

We need your Immediate Help

To all Zones / Districts / Posts,

Michigan Boys State Registration ends on Monday, June 1st. Our numbers are up by 30% this year as our switch to Hillsdale College has been a positive move. However, we currently have 30 unsponsored delegates who have applied to Boys State. Unsponsored means unpaid. We are reaching out to all Posts asking to sponsor one or more of these boys at $425 each. This is one of the Legion's most important youth programs, educating the next generation in civic leadership. We can't falter here. Your donation is greatly appreciated. Please send your check made out to Michigan American Legion Foundation and mail to Department HQ 212 N. Verlinden Ave., Lansing, MI 48915.

Thank you in advance for your help

Subject: Volunteer Opportunity – Rooftop Garden Support for Veterans

Good afternoon,

My name is Annie, and I work in the CDCE/Voluntary Service Department at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. I am reaching out regarding a meaningful volunteer opportunity that directly impacts the quality of life for our veterans.

We have a rooftop garden available exclusively for veterans residing in our Community Living Center (CLC) on our 6th floor, as well as veterans on our 5th floor receiving hospice care, palliative care, short stay recovery, and rehabilitation services. The rooftop garden provides veterans with a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fresh air, sunshine, social interaction, and a peaceful outdoor environment during the summer months.

Unfortunately, in order for veterans to safely access the rooftop garden, there must be two individuals present with the veterans at all times. Due to staffing limitations, we are not always able to provide enough staff coverage, which means veterans are sometimes unable to enjoy this special space.

We are currently seeking volunteers who may be interested in assisting with the rooftop garden program and that can commit to the following days and times:

• Mondays from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Wednesdays from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

This opportunity would begin Monday, June 1st and continue through the summer season, weather permitting.

Volunteer responsibilities would include:

- Assisting veterans on and off the wheelchair lift
- Transporting veterans safely from their rooms to the rooftop garden and back
- Taking attendance and supervising veterans while on the rooftop
- Assisting veterans with maneuvering wheelchairs as needed
- Socializing and engaging with veterans during their time outdoors
- Using the phone system to communicate with CLC nursing staff as needed
- Ensuring the overall safety and well-being of the veterans while on the rooftop

This truly is such a rewarding opportunity, and it means so much to our veterans to simply be able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air during the summer months. The summer season is short here in Michigan, and we would love to help our veterans enjoy it as much as possible.

Thank you so much for your consideration and continued support of our veterans. If anyone has questions or would like additional information or clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Have a wonderful day.

Post 32 Riders Mother's Day Luncheon Event

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Post 32 Riders organized a special luncheon to honor and celebrate the mothers of members from Post 32 Legion, the Sons of the American Legion (SAL), and the Auxiliary. The event took place in the Post hall, decorated for the occasion. Members of the Riders took responsibility for preparing a delicious meal while also serving as attentive wait staff to ensure all guests felt welcome and appreciated throughout the event. In addition to the meal, each mother was presented with a lovely rose as a token of appreciation for their love and support. A Riders member guitarist played a selection of guitar music to accompany the meal. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt conversations, making it a memorable celebration for all in attendance as they came together to honor the important role mothers play in their lives on the upcoming Mother’s Day.

Post 32 introduced business cards to help recruit new members. These cards can be used to promote American Legion Post 32 to veterans encountered in various locations, such as restaurants, shopping centers, grocery stores, hardware stores, and churches. The cards will be distributed to Post 32 members to aid in their membership recruitment efforts.

The front of the card features standard Post information, while the back includes fields for the Post 32 member's Name and Phone number if the member wishes to be contacted. Additionally, a QR code is provided that links directly to the Post 32 website.

Post 32 Riders Event

American Legion Riders Post 32 convened at Fort Dearborn Post 364 for the Blessing of the Bikes event. This gathering on April 11th attracted a significant number of riders from across Metro Detroit, highlighting the strong sense of community among motorcycle enthusiasts. The event commenced with a ceremonial blessing conducted by the local Catholic priest, who offered prayers for the safety and well-being of both the riders and their motorcycles. Following the blessing, the Auxiliary of Post 364 hosted a luncheon, fostering camaraderie and shared experiences among participants.

Along with the Bike Blessing, some members visited the American Legion Farmington Post to collect a plaque that belonged to the Brighton Post. It was a productive day of activities.

Vietnam War Veterans Day Luncheon March 27th at The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms

The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI will host a Vietnam War Veterans Day luncheon on Friday, March 27th. No charge for veterans, $22 for non-veterans; reservations are required. Follow the link for more information and to register. Hope to see you there!

EXCERPT: In commemoration of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, veterans and their families are invited to this special afternoon lunch to commemorate their bravery and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

Join us as we gather to express our gratitude and appreciation for your service. The luncheon will provide a warm and supportive environment for veterans to connect, share stories, and enjoy a meal together.

We are delighted to welcome Maj. Gen. (Ret) Darren L. Werner, who will serve as keynote speaker at this year's event. Werner is the President of SAPA Transmission and former Commanding General of the U.S. Army Tank Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM).

We're pleased to offer an added benefit for veterans attending the luncheon: the Wayne County Veteran Services Mobile Unit will be on hand. Veterans are welcome to stop by to speak one-on-one with staff who can provide guidance and, if needed, help start the process for emergency financial assistance for wartime service members.
