American Legion Buddy Check Program

The American Legion Buddy Check Program is a national initiative focused on veteran outreach and peer wellness through personal connections and welfare checks. These materials provide a comprehensive toolkit for local posts to organize communication teams, offering sample scripts and strategies for reaching out to veterans and their families. The program aims to alleviate social isolation and address critical needs, such as mental health support, financial assistance, or help with VA benefits. Organizers emphasize that these calls are strictly for service and support, not fundraising or membership recruitment. By formalizing these check-ins, the organization seeks to provide a vital safety net and prevent self-harm among the veteran community. Local Post teams are encouraged to prioritize these contacts during Veterans Week and the organization’s anniversary while maintaining ongoing support throughout the year.

Watch the explainer video below for an overview of the American Legion Buddy Check Program and make plans to create a Post Buddy Check team.

Post 32 First Responder Event - 9/11

Members from various affiliations, including the American Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, Post 32 Honor Guard, and Post 32 Riders, came together to support this meaningful event. The Post 32 Riders enhanced the occasion by providing a motorcycle escort for the deliveries, ensuring a festive and respectful atmosphere as the baskets were transported to the dedicated first responders.

This event was a sincere gesture to express gratitude for the hard work and sacrifice of those who serve our community, particularly on a day that holds significant meaning in our nation’s history. We sincerely thank the Post 32 Auxiliary for their commitment and effort in making this event a success and for showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and community support.
