HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The 1st District Oratorical Constitutional Speech Contest occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Wisdom Walker, a home-schooled student from Corktown in Detroit, won the competition with her impressive understanding of constitutional topics and captivating oratory skills. The event provided a platform for students to express their views on the Constitution. Wisdom Walker will participate in the 1st Zone Oratorical Contest, which will be held at 10:00 at the Post location below.

1st District 2025 Oratorical Contest
Oratorical Contest for the 1st District is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th at Wayne County Community College Eastern Campus located at 5901 Conner St., Detroit Mi. 48213 in the first-floor auditorium to the right of the entrance door starting at 10:00 AM. Judges, timekeepers, and guides are expected to be there at 9:00 AM. Parking is available in the back of the building off Conner Ave.
One student has dropped and only one of the remaining 4 has started working on the speeches. Contact and an email including tips and American Legion resource links was sent to all participants along with the parent listed on the application.
Our Detroit educational system is in a sorry state with several of the students queried not even know what the constitution was. Hopefully the American Legion in its Americanism programs can make a big difference.
If you have any questions, please contact Dan McCrary at 313 492 7462.
